Operational Challenges of Solar PV Plus Storage Power Plants and Modeling Recommendations

This paper reviews potential operational challenges facing hybrid power plants, particularly solar photovoltaic (PV) plus battery energy storage systems (BESS). Real-world operation has witnessed many challenges, e.g., overvoltage at fault recovery, oscillations during PV ramping up, large phase angle change faults, etc. while focusing on those caused by plant-level control and inverter-level coordination. To this end, detailed frequency-power droop voltage are presented. Effect of the communication delay from plant level to inverter is examined. also presents recommendations how test plants detect in planning stage. The contribution two-fold: 1) A list been reviewed with several analyzed detail demonstrated case studies. Modeling testing capture stage have 2) details IBR controls both level, elucidating connection between parameters challenges. Mitigation plans, parameter tuning, can be derived based insights revealed research.
